View Full Version : Moving website then updates.
Well soon, I hope, I will be moving the site to a new host. (http://www.1and1.com) I already have the domain there (http://www.tri-state4x4.com) and so far no issues and there websites they host are very fast. There will be no delay with posting or anything. Once I move the host I will then update the website from phpBB to vBulletin. It will kinda look like JeepForums and other forums. When the site moves to new host. It can take up to 24 hours for it to all work itself out. So the forums will be shut down before the move do a backup then when its all working on the new host I will open the forums again. Hope this all works and does a better job then the host I have now. But the draw back is that I can only host one video at a time. So I will start making DVDs and you guys can buy them for a few bucks each ride. (Just trying to keep everone updated and I have been working hard to get a faster more reliable site)

sweet justin, sounds like an awesome plan, i just hope the upgrade from php to vb goes smooth. I know of alot of people that have had problems in the past where they lost all of the database lol. lets hope that doesnt happen.
Also i think i might be able to host the old videos in kinda like an Archive link type thing. You can give me the videos if you want and i can host them on the server for the company i useto work for, he lets me still host some of my stuff there. Its a super fast server and its Dedicated so i can keep pretty much all i want there, and then i can post the link to the video if anyone wants to watch it or download it.
Sounds cool man, yea I have not done the transfer before. I am going to backup and try it. If it does not work, I am going to try again then ask for support from vBulletin. I am sure it will work, the database is not that large yet... :). It might take a long time to do the database move because I want to do lots of modifications to the script but the great thing about vBulletin its all done with mysql so I dont have to modify the php files like I had to with this one. Less issues in the long run when it comes to script updates :).

FINALLY!! the wait has be hard but sounds like we are definitely improving the site justin many thanks go out to you and all the effort you put into this site!!
though it will suck to not have tristate for a day or so it will totally be worth it in the long run.
can't wait to use vbulletin haha

that sounds sweet, most of the problem i heard of was with large databases so it should work out pretty well for ya. that is going to make updates soo much easier, i hate php for updates how you have to reprogram almost half your board lol
Yup, I know what you mean, thats why when I do hacks. I write all the hacks I did down in notepad and stuff so when it comes to updating the php its alittle easier and I dont have to go searching around for the hacks.

i have a hack for that, to keep track of all the hacks lol sounds funny but php needs like 600000000 hacks to even come close to what you can do with vb, im really looking foward to this update
Plus I will have it so people can put attachments up. So they can post images if they dont have a host or if they are not a full offical member... Still thinking about that but I will get all the works worked out within a week or so after the upgrade.

Not yet, I have to get the host setup today I hope. And then I will start to move files over (not database stuff yet) and then once I am ready I will move the databases over. That is when I will let you all know the site will be going down and for the domain to move over to the new host it could be up to 24hours.

How about the avitar size?
Lets not get pushy here... I will do it on the NEW forum :)
Site updates... Site might be really really slow... I am downloading it to my computer and backing up everything.
I will probally be shutting the forum down sometime tonight. Then I will bring the site back up on the new host by Wensday afternoon would be the goal. I know thats a long time of no Tri-State 4x4 but in the end the wait should be worth it :).

why dont you just do the other site, and leave this one as is, then just switch the name later? we would lose those posts from the week but at least the site wouldnt be totally down
Once I start the dns move on the domain to the new host. It would be pointless. I will do it the way I feel that it will work and it will be done definitally by Wednesday. Probally sooner if there is no issues.
Ordered the new host, I am uploading files now. I will be doing all the finish transfer of domain and databases on Thursday of this week. That means the site could be down all Thursday long! I will probally shut it down Thursday morning. And it all should be back up and running Thursday night or Friday. Sometimes the domain takes about 24 hours.

They are not uploaed so you will have to wait to view those bad boys. My internet at home is fried from all the uploading. Internet and everything is very slow for me. Let me know if there are any issues with the new host and if there are any parts of the site unavaible. I tried to check everything but I am not going to to threw every post made... :)
