Hey Guys,

I am wondering if anyone has ever done or seen a dual exhaust on a wrangler. I want to do an exhaust mod, but want to do something a little different. I have looked at systems from Borla, Gibson, Magnaflow, etc...

Every system (cat-back) out there is pretty much the same. I am going to build a custom system now, but I want to be different. I would like to either come out in front or behind the rear wheels. If not possible, I would like to come out the rear.

Any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time.

I did dual on mine ... but it's a YJ ... I also have a 350 so it made it easier but harder .... are you looking for true dual exhaust or just dual tail pipes ?

are you looking to go from the headers back or just split it some time after the cat? do you even have clearance back there for a second muffler? I've seen it done with a V8 conversions as well as the CJ's with the V6 and V8's but usually it's dropped into the fender wells. i know pacesetter makes a dual outlet header for the 4.0. you'd have to get custom bent pipes but i'm sure you knew that already.

lol, great minds think alike speed

Since you have a signal header duel pipes would not only kill your back pressure but also your power. The ability for the exhaust to breath right and create back pressure has to do with the way air comes in the motor and out. The duel piping will make it more hard for the fumes to escape from the muffler. If one route is shorter then the other the pressure will also just be shoved out that end. In the winter you can tell cars that have this because only one has smoke coming out thus making the other side a waste of pipe and money running the pipe. If you are going to run a new pip just stay with stock locating to get the right amount of from or better don’t restrict it more then it already is.

Well so far my plan is to go cat-back. I am looking at using either a Flowmaster (40 or 50 ereis) or a magnaflow muffler. Either muffler would be a dual output. I am looking to run dual tailpipes.

I am aware clearance is an serious issue now, but when the lift goes in, the issue will not be as seious as it is now with the stck height.

I would love to come out in front of the rear wheels, but the odds of pulling this off are slim to none.

Has anyone ever seen a dual tailpipe wrangler?

Do you think that this will restrict in more?

The idea behing this mod is to be different, and hopefully gain a little more HP from the better flowing exhaust. I know it will not be a huge increase, but every little bit helps.

I can't see why you could not run dual pipes out the rear. If your doing it for HP gain I don't think it is worth it.

I went with a borla cat back system and K@N air intake and to be honest I think the jeep is slower after the mod. I do like the sound but as far as performance gains with the I 6... I did not see any improvement.

Just my $.02

Rockdawgs got the borla system and stock intake but a throttle body spacer and comptuer chip and he says he has gained enough HP that he noticed it. Dual exhaust on an i6 seems pointless... unless you are running a 350 like speedracer... it is so hot :D

To be honest, I have other things planned for the future (if all goes well) that will benefit from the dual exhaust.

For now I would be happy with a slight increase when a air filter and throttle body are added.

The sound and looks of a dual exhaust will be good enough for me now.

Has any one seend a dual set up yet?

Can anyone recommend a shop for the mod. #ulity is super important to me.

What's planned for your jeep? Are you going mild or wild ?

You were close on my set-up Justin, I have a custom machined throttle-body spacer, cold air set-up (accel not k&n), a Banks cat-back exhaust and I reset the computer. No chip.
To answer autocrave- If your jeep is like mine (2002) It should have 2 pipes exiting the header with 2 cat's, then a y pipe into 1 pipe and a third cat just before the muffler. Although its illegal to modify emissions equipment  lets just say hypotheticly you were to get rid of everything right after the 2 cats, that leaves you with 2 open pipes sticking down. If you could find a muffler shop to custom bend a set of 2" pipes and install a pair of mufflers you would have a true dual exhaust. Most shops wont remove a catalytic converter but if you removed the third one who would know? there's still 2 under there. I read somewhere that jeep added the third one for redundancy. i'll call a buddy of mine and see if his shop still bends custom exhausts. If he does I'll pm you his number.

Rockdawg,

I have a 2005 Rubi Unlimted. I am unsure if the setup is similiar to yours. I will have to climb under there again and take a look at it. As for your setup, I remember it from the April run when I met you. I was behind you when you pulled that bad ass 3-wheel into the diner parking lot.

Side note, just remebered the face of that security guard when all the Jeeps cut through the other parking lot...LOL

MyGoodness,
Right now I am saving up for a 6" Long Arm from Rock Krawler. Joe at TRC OFFROAD gave me an amazing price (totally recommend him). I am planning to put 35" tires on it afterwards, but I just saw an ad for Rock Krawler's 6" LA on an Unlimited running 37" tires.....SWEET! :D

In the process of getting pricing to have the interior Rhinolined along with the front, rear bumers, Rock rails and the Tuffy box in the back of my Jeep.

I have spoken to Joe also about having gears done afterwards if the vehicle becomes a dog after the lift and tires. Skid row gas tank and Radiator Skid, control arm skids, and Rock Krawler T-case skid are also included in the price he gave me for the lift.

After that the plans are to do a Snorkel, tire carrier, sport cage and a few other misc. parts.

WOW I am rambling right now....

TO actually answer your question on why the dual would benefit me later: the plan is to have either the head ported and polished (when first warranty runs out) by a friend of mine, or to send it down to Alambama to a guy I know (did some work for me on another car), for some boost.

The boost is something I have not even researched yet, because I need to researh how turbos or Super chargers compare off the road. This is the only mod that I am unsure of whether I will ever get to.

So has anyone any pictures of a dual set up on a wrangler? I have searching the internet and can not find one at all.

Jose

I know a guy he is really good bad atitude and a pain in the ass to deal with but he is a perfectionist. never had any complaints about his work but is business ethics are really bad and he is expensive. But when you see his work people don't mind paying for the work. Dougs Street shop in fairlawn I will get the number for you. I would do it after the lift so he can see where the new long arms are mounted.

as for a turbo or supercharger just one thing to keep in mind. Gas Powered Turbo cant get wet, muddy and heavy dust kill them so if you plan on not just driving it on the road don’t get one. Or you can make some cool snorkel kit for it but still getting it wet will warp the outside. They are not made like diesel turbo are.

I am still against the whole singal to dule on the jeep set up i think you will run into clearance problems expecialy with long arm and the power just wont be there. If you also do alot of water crossings over you tail pipe it will drawl in more water making it easyer to stall becaus of lack of back pressure to push the water out.

I my self prefer the single exit out the back. Its usually harder to bend.

HOW ABOUT IF I ADD A 180 T-STAT  ..... THAT WILL GET THE DUAL EXHAUST HUMMING...

Sorry Cody, I could not resist.

Still going dual, but going to wait until Joe does the lift.
