tranny prob?

Ok so everytime i put my tranny in rev. i get this nasty thump i checked the fluid and it is good.............does anyone know what this is or why its doing it and how i can fix it. Thanks guys in advace.

Try putting someone you trust inside the jeep and with the brakes on have them shift from drive to reverse. Look undernieth and make sure the trans mount is good and not moving. also check the u-jounts for play. Sometimes its just the backlash in the rear gears.

thanx al i will take a look how hard is it to redo the mounts and would i do that just going to reverse and not going from park to drive?

Sometimes it sounds worse from neutral to reverse. Usually you will see the trans jump around if it's the mount. When going into reverse looking underneith try to listen and see if the noise is from the trans or rear end.

mine thumps into reverse as well ...i did not think it was a problem and i just ignor it...try shifting in with the clutch slightly up. i find if the clutch is not all the way down it shifts eaisier. But if urs is a real prob tell me, because i should prob do the same fix. lol
