View Full Version : Who wants to help with a Lift install?
Well soon I am getting my Rubicon Express 2.5" lift for my YJ. There already is a 2.5 inch lift on it but it was all done wrong and the springs are SOLID. Anyway, who wants to come by and help me out. I dont have all the tools and if you guys want to help bring some tools I might need. I have a compressor and hand tools. But I think we need a impact wrench, torque wrench, and maybe other tools and trips you have. Let me know, I will post a date about when I am going to do the install. If anyone wants to help post a reply. :D Thanks

Can't help you with the install but I will offer this advice. Get yourself a can of PB blaster and start soaking all the nuts and bolts with it. It'll make the install go MUCH easier.

when and where are you planning doing the lift? I might be able to help. Putting a leaf spring lift in is pretty straight foward. How is the old lift installed wrong? What kind of springs are they?If it is really stiff riding the shocks could be to short or the shackles are just over tightened.

ProComp :( It moves but its soo bouny. Well I took it to the mech and he basically said I want to back to stock for safty. It needed break lines, SYE, new springs, and some other misc parts. So buying a new kit and a new SYE kit will make it much easier and its not just putting a band aid on my Jeep. I want it to be safe and reliable. So doing it right from the start is key. Where my house possibly if I can get the Garage cleaned out. Randolph NJ. When I dont know yet. I still need to order the kit.

2.5" and you're going SYE? y? don't want to use the drop kit? I mean it's not a bad idea and definitely a good idea if you decide to go bigger later, but it's not really necessary for that sized lift. If you want to pay for the gas I'd be glad to come down and help with the install. Did my BDS by myself in 2 days and there's not too much i don't have between my tools and my dad's. if you're looking for tips, check out my write up on said install over at JF if you haven't already. let me know!

Well with the lift right now at 2.5 inches. The driveshaft is at a horrible angle. The u joints are shot already and the mech suggested it. O man I dont know what to do. This is pissing me off now.
Well I was on some sites and forums. I read that you can get away with the drop for awhile but then its goign to start vibrating again. I really just want to get this done and done right. So its strong and I dont have to worry as much on the trails with blowing a driveshaft or worse.

well an SYE is definitely the top end solution for vibes, but shims work just as well on smaller lifts. I've got a set of 4° shims in mine with the drop kit and am vibe free. it may take a little trial and error in shim/drop combos to get rid of them all, but once you get it, there's no reason the vibes would come back. and shims only cost $40 for a set of steel shims. the kit should come with a drop kit so you're set there. What i would do is get aluminum shims first and run them before deciding what angle you need. the alum shims are cheaper to test with but tend to disintegrate over time and hard wheeling. or you can get an angle finder and measure your shaft when you do the install. for 2.5" you'd probably need either a 2° or 4° shim. you could also try a 6° and see if you can get away with just shims. they're easy enough to install, especially after everything is new after the lift install.
See if the SYE kit works... then I am going to do that. Even though its going to cost more. Plus I will probally get addicted, I think I am already, then I will probally go larger. Plus I am thinking about getting larger shackes. So the SYE would be the best bet and less things can go wrong... Do you see where I am going or?

this may sound stupid, but if youre gonna install the lift in a garage, make sure your gonna have enough clearance to get it out once its lifted. We had a bad experience with that in my buddy's garage and we ended up putting the stock tires on, disassembling the door and the opener and weighing the truck down with cement bags and like 12 people to get it to sag enough t get it out.
HAHHAH Yea I think I have clearence. No matter I am not getting larger tires for some time due to fund issues... :)

Hey Xeon,
Let me know when you are ready......my truck is pretty well stocked toolwise and I'd be down for helping w/ your lift. I'll be honest in saying that I have never installed a lift, but I'm pretty well mechanically inclined.
I have buddies w/ CJs,YJs,TJs,XJs,ZJs.....so the more I learn the better off I am. About a month ago I did a clutch in an 02TJ for a kid that sunk his jeep at the play area in Paragon. Go to my site and you will see the pics
hey thanks so much! I really apreciate everything I just need to get my jacks and start spraying all bolts with penetarting stuff. I will let you all know when I am doing the lift! More hands the better :D I will probally sit back and watch... haha nah I will get my hands dirty thats the whole I dea of getting a Jeep :D also dropping tons of cash.
Got Disconnects installed! Only broke one bolts head off...
My lift and stuff should ship out Monday the 3rd. I hope... Then I will get it all by Friday... so possibly that weekend I will do some stuff. I might acually be able to do lift myself but people comming over is always a blast. :D
Wahoo my stuff will be shipped out the 4th! That means I should get it by friday or saturday and Monday at max I hope... :D Once I get all the parts I am going to start install! I want to drop the t-case first though... so I can get that installed and then work on the Lift so I can measure and order my driveshaft asap... :D
