Well, I have been driving my Cherokee around with this nasty noise coming out of the rear for awhile and it has been slowly getting worse. I figured I would have to replace the entire rear so I decided to disassemble this rear to see why it was growling so much...

Guess what I found???. A wasted Carrier bearing... Looks like I might be able to salvage the rear after all.. Even if it is the weenie Dana 35. So, for now I guess I'll toss in a new bearing and I'll just wheel it until it breaks.

Nice Huh??

Betcha a Yota wouldn't have this problem until way into the 200 K mi range..

I've been dismantling some parts Zooks with over 150 k mi and none of those bearings look like this with only 90 k mi..

So much for American Iron...

hey Bad, you get an A for finding the problem, but a big F for unsafe jacking procedures. if you're gonna use cinder blocks as stand lifts you really should turn them the other way so the load is tranfers as it was meant to be when used in building. much stronger that way over flat side up. my uncle did that once and two of the blocks caved in on him. luckily no one was under the car at the time. glad you found the problem though

"Cinder Blocks" ????? Duh.... I'll bet they were old and crumbly too...Those blocks are junk.... I don't think you can even buy them anymore...As they get older they crumble very easily too..

But, That thought has crossed my mind a few times.

Couple of reasons I did it that way..

Jack stands don't sit evenly on brick surfaces..

and

Because I had to split the T/C I wanted more height........

Also, those blocks are Concrete Comercial Grade Blocks used on Commercial Projects not your average home. ( those darn blocks are heavy to carry too ).. I've been doing that for a long time and never had a problem. Notice they are also doubled up.. I also give the car a really strong "Shake" before going under it..

That car only weighs a little over 4k, I don't think I would do it on anything much heavier though. Also, they tend to "wobble a little when you go 1 block higher...

Wish I had a Lift in my garage

You know.......You guys spend too much time studying those pics....
