This is a great place for a sunday afternoon trial ride with the family. It's definiatly not Hardcore, but if you like getting out and enjoying the Pennsylvania scenery, this is a good place to start. (If you go in the summer, be sure to stop at R.B. Winter State Park for a quick dip in the lake.)

It has miles and miles of legal drivable trails.

Depending on when you hit it, there's some pretty decent mud holes.

About 3 hours for me, but I wouldn't mind putting in the time for that trip. The Allegheny National Forest area is great. Sounds like it'd make a good weekend of wheelin and campin :D

Be very careful in that Allegheny National Forest during hunting season. I've hunted in there and it's like a war zone. Every idiot city slicker that's old enough to carry a weapon and only handles it once a year during hunting season is in there carrying a weapon and shooting at anything that moves.

Sounds like we should consider planning an overnight Camping trip in the Summertime for that one. I think there are other PA Parks in the area that are open to 4x4 travel. Like Sproul State Forest And Tiagdaghton State Forest. Maybe hit one on Saturday and one on Sunday or something like that.

I'm open to suggestions and maybe a someone out that way would like to be a Trail Leader .... capengoggles are you interested??

Sounds like a plan for a spring trip, and I'd be more that happy to lead. Just remember that these trails are basicly like green 1's or green 2's at paragon, nothing hardcore.

There is a nice campground close to the trailhead.

To get there..take the lewisburg exit off of I80 and get on 15 south. You'll take 15 south into Lewisburg and make a right onto 192 West. 192 West will take you right to the campground and Bald Eagle SF.

I would love to do this over the summer some time! Maybe we can plan early so people can make SURE they are off of work and so on. Hopefully I will have my GPS by then and we can map it and I dont get lost :)

yeah, as long as I have like a month or so notice, I can usually take off up to a week of work without negative reprecussions.

Hope that helps, I've been exploring the PA snowmobile trails to get back in the groove. They are easy, but there are miles and miles of them.

well first off I am new to this forum and this is my first post. If you would like maps of the Bald Eagle Forest just email dcnr and ask them for trails of that area with ur address and they will send you trail maps of the forest. I also would like to join up in this trip seeing how this is my home area and have been in these woods since i was at least 10. I also would like to recomend camping at Poe Valley State Park or Poe Paddy both nice parks and trails all around them.

I have 92 4.0L Wrangler with 2" body, posi rear, 31 pro comp a/t, 1.5 shackle, in a month or two i am getting a 2" BDS and 5/8 more shackles and making a home made posi-lok also probably going SYE. If you get the maps from DCNR that will give you a pretty good idea on where to go, trails that say "Driviable Trails". And as of right now the jeep is down to 2wd because of those vacume hoses.

I'm going out to run Bucktail on the 19th if you guys are interested in tagging along.

That's not far from where you mentioned. Near Renovo.

These are only 3's and should be ok to do in two wheel drive. It just depends on how washed out they are from the heavy winter rains... I just ran some old 4wd trails in the Catskills this weekend and had a blast. They were barely passable and difficult to do but still didn't get stuck. :wtg:

So is anybody thinking of a date on going or even to what area of the forest that they are going to it is impossible to cover all the trails in one day.

I was just wheelin' with some friends out there this past weekend near Renovo. There's alot of trails open to the public. I found a few that were pretty cool. Most are old logging roads that were barely passable.

I found that the only problem is they are so desolate you need to be careful where you go and not get lost. Budgeting fuel was also an issue. The GPS was a big help in keeping my location. But, I had no decent maps other than a quad sheet to follow. There are no Gas Stations, No Deli's, not much of anything but Forest. Depending on where you go

Some roads were gated but there were so many roads open it didn't matter. If we go it should be in the summer months so we can camp out there.

There's supposed to be a couple of Ghost Towns out there. I'll have to look into this some more.

I'll be going there this summer to continue the trip.

Austin was cool too. Where the dam is busted out..That's some serious structure. I can't believe the volume of water going under it. ;-)

Also, I'm planning a trip to GWNF if anybody is interested.
