View Full Version : Diff fluid replace...
If you guys went in the mud and water I would replace your diff fluids. I pulled my cover off about 2 weeks ago after the rig and there was more water and mud then oil. Found out that my diff vent popped off and it all poored in when I sunk the front of the Jeep in that nasty mud. Atleast check it out so you dont mess up your gears and bearings. :)

front or rear differential? both? i dont know much about it but i thought that was sealed...what about the trany...sould i check that 2?
Yes front and rear. To replace it you have to pull the diff cover off and let it drain. Then clean it all up with brakelean or something and put it all back together with a nice coat of RTV. Check your tranny level. You probally dont ahve to replace that. Just top it off no dirt should get in there. Everythign is kinda sealed from oil comming out but stuff can still come in :) Plus we have 88's and seals go bad.

the t-case also has a breather line on it. supposedly the tranny does as well, but i have yet to find that one, even after i've had the whole thing out to change the clutch. I'm thinking it's vented through the shift tower or something. not sure about the autos. anyway, always check all 5 major fluid areas after going swimming. 2 diffs, tranny, t-case and engine oil. if the stuff comes out looking like chocolate milk, change it. before each run, check to make sure the breather lines are located high on the rig. the front should be located just behind the grill, near the top of the engine bay, the rear i ran up into the fender well and zip tied it to the filler lines for the gas tank. the t-case is run up on the firewall, right next to the map sensor. no high water marks here.

the clutch and the brakes are a sealed system. any leaks there that water could get in to would cause either one to fail. unless you've got a slow leak in the master or slave cyl you shouldn't have to worry about the clutch.

Sen... When I took my vacum lines off I just pulled them off the t-case. I should seal that beast up right? Should I just put tons of rtv in it? Can I take that stupid valve thing off the t-case for the front acuator? (got the manual thing). Thanks

when i did the posilok on mine, i cut the vac lines themselves, about 1/2 an inch off the boot where it connects to the t-case. i then sealed the leftover part of the lines with rtv, leaving the boot intact. no problems in over two years. i'm not sure if the vac switch can allow water into the case itself since i believe it works off a spring loaded ball that moves with the shift fork, but why take chances.

don't take the vacume switch out of the t-case leave it in there or else you are really asking for water to come in.
