Well before the April ride I noticed a werid clanking sound on the front end. But then it went away and now its back... But the noise went faster and louder as I drove faster and faster. It starts around 15 MPH I would say( I still dont have a speedo... :D). So today I wanted to check it out. I put the Jeep on stands and spun the front drivers side tire. I heard just the gears messing. So I spray the u-joint with some PB Blaster for the hell of it. Then I went to the passenger side. Spun it and heard the same thing I hear when driving. So I then I noticed that the u-joint is SHOT. Thats not the big issue thoguh... I saw the axle clunking up and down as I turned it. Thats with the axle disconnected. Now I connected the axle via the posi-lok engager and spun the wheel again. It did not wobble as much but it was still there. My questions are as follows:
:help: :help:
Are my wheel bearings shot?
Are my axle bearins shot?
How do you go about replacing all this... I tried pulling the brakes off and there is a weird nut its not like a 12 point its somethign different. Let me know your smarts! Thanks! :!:

Probably just needs the u-joint.There should be 3 12point bolts on the back of the hub. Pull the axle nut off and those three bolts along with brakes and slide the axle shaft out. I don't remember the size but I think they are 1/2 inch 12 points. Make sure you buy spicer joints. Those were the only ones that lasted for me.

Yup Scott swung by and we pulled it all apart. Its 12point 13mm took some time to get the wheel hub out but its all out and I will be getting some u-joints tomarrow I hope. Thanks

go out and invest in an E14 (IIRC) external torx socket. that's what the heads on the caliper bolts are (at least on mine, which is the same as yours) using the 12 point sockets on those is asking for trouble. different year YJ's used different heads for these bolts you you'll get different people telling you different sockets to use. the hub bolts are all 12 point though.

as for your moving shaft, check the bearing/bushing on the outer shaft end and also the shoulder on the inner shaft. it's there to keep the collar end of the the shafts from moving around like you described and also to keep them lined up so the collar can slide over the two. it's possible your bearing is shot and allowing some play at that end. just something to check before buttoning it up again.

13MM AND 1/2 ARE CONSIDERED TO BE THE SAME SOME TIMES THE 13MM IS A SMIGGEN LARGER. SO ON THOSE BOLTS IF YOU HAVE A RUST ONE THE 13MM USUALLY WORKS BETTER I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE A DIFFERENT SIZE YET. XEON HAVE FUN W/THAT THEY SOME TIMES SUCK GETTING THEM APART. I HAVE A SPARE SET OF BOLTS IN MY TOOLBOX SO I CAN WAIL ON THEM AND NOT WORRY ABOUT DESTROYING A CUSTOMERS BOLT. IF YOU DO THIS MAKE SURE THEY ARE THREADED IN A LITTLE.

DAMM CAPS LOCKS SORRY GUYS

there we go
