Ok since we are getting larger and larger turn outs on our trips. I want to start making grouping criteria. We need I think 3 different groups. One should be stock or ill experienced. Another should be mild lifts and or experience. Then large lifts, big tires, and lockers. Because having 12 people in one group is fun but it can get old waiting up for everyone…

Group Stock requirements:
Stock suspension
New to wheeling

Group Mild requirements:
Mild lift
No road tires (A/Ts are good)
Offroading experience (Atleast once)

Group Hardcore requirements:
Large lift
Large Tires (31” +)
Offroading experience (More then 3 times)
Atleast one locker

I think this will be good. Please comment on what you think should change or not change. Let me know this is not a final list…

no offense man...i think the grouping looks good.

just because the first group is stockers doesnt nessecarily mean they will be doing all greens. it depends on the skills and equipment of the people who show up.

I know our group got into some pretty technical stuff for the rigs we had and there were spots that some of them struggled and still had to be guides through spots. if you got a whole group of stockers and one or two guys want to tackle blue 2 or 3 trails they could get left behind or hold the group up.

dont get me wrong a stock jeep is a pretty capable machine, but there are limits of the vehicle and where it will go.

with my samurai i can do the blue 2's...3's and possibly some of the black trails. but i couldnt due to the other vehicles in the pack. you got to limit your trails to the least equipped vehicle in the group otherwise they will cause a traffic jam later and then noone has a fun day.

this is just a way to pair up vehicles with a similar build level. i think its great when someone starts wheelin and they start with a stocker no matter what make. this allows you to learn its limitations. then you can mod according to that. heck just since i built my zuk ive realized:

i need to move my axle forward to correct my steering, install a track bar and wider wheels to gain my turning radius back, new shock mounts and shocks that dont limit travel, front drop link shackles, eventually power steering and a front locker, and eventually a winch.

what you saw in april was probably what the stock group would run as well. the thing to do (at least when going to PAP) would be to take the trails that have higher level off shoots on them. this way the guys who want to challange their rigs can split off, while the other group takes the easier loop and the two meet back up further on. The stocker group never went higher than a blue 1 (at least before 4pm) on the april run and you saw how much time we lost fighting up that one hill. taking several stock jeeps on a blue 2 would slow the group down, and the risk of breaking something goes up. the second group just has there would be fine for a stock jeep most likely, as long as the driver has been off road a couple times and doesn't might scraping the underside of the rig. diff guards are a good investment if you're not planning on a lift any time soon. small shackle lifts and body lifts would fit in that category as well.
