damn when i say i just barely made it home i mean barely, by the time i got into the drive way my volts gauge was at the dead bottom below 9 volts and the wiper blades wouldnt even work any more the bat was so dead.
Thanks to the guy with the black wrangler i cant remember your name doh. for driving back with me till rt 15 incase i got suck, as well as all the other guys trying to help get the damn alternator working again.
so i guess im in the market for a new alternator since mine is kaput.

yea my group stayed until 5pm.
many tanks goes out to justin and to the guys in my group....bill,scott,chris,jerry,dave,steve and to my navagator galen.
i had a blast and i hope to be in a bit better form for next ride. i had some minor issues but nothing major!
Justin im sorry we didnt make it back to the play area for 1:30. we got stuck on turtle mid way and till we finally got off and would have gotten turned around it was like 2:30 when we stopped and grabbed lunch.
I thin kall in all we did 3 or 4 trails....blue 1's green 1 2 and 3's....no major casulties and we all had a great time!
i will have pics posted tomorrow....for now im off to bed!

great to hear dave! i still say try your belt first. coming off anyway to change the alt out. too bad you missed me hauling Justin off a stump and him driving into a tree though  think you were the only casualty of the day, at least from our group. i stayed til 4 so i'm not sure what happened after that. one smoking clutch, one bad alt, one leaky tire, at least 2 stucks, one hell of a nasty hill climb and one wrong turn. all in all, a good day!

We smoked an alt on Scotts rig on the way home, too. It must have been all that nasty mud. Something doesn't feel right in my drivetrain now either. Almost like a slipping trans, hope not, it was just rebuilt. We did have a great day and can't wait for the next run.

man, what is it with you guys and trannies. both runs i've been on so far have smoked clutches and now we have a slipping tranny. this is why we have 4low guys  i hardly use the clutch at all on the trails.

i think im just going to replace both the alt and the belt, im almost positive that is the orlg alt. which would mean it has 155k on it. gonna get a rebuilt one from the auto parts store in town if its cheap enough and see how that goes. damn mud lol was totally fun tho cept all my mud washed off too :(

I'm Chris (Green TJ, scraped every rock I went through, smoking clutch, etc.)
It's funny I checked these forums for the first time and saw this one, mostly because I didn't make it home, lol. I live just near Brodheadsville and after I got off Route 80 onto 115 my radio went out, then my wiper blades were slowing down, then my gauges fell, then the whole thing died and I managed to steer into a baron road (without the power steering) Fortunately I was only like 10 miles from home and good ol' Dad came and tried to jump the battery, but no dice. So we took it to Advanced Auto and sure enough, it was kaput. so I now have a new battery, which is good, but a missing front side marker light (which won't allow my left turn signals to work) which is bad. But all the trouble (and money) was worth it, cause it was a very fun day. Anyway, my experience with the Tri-State guys that were in my group was great, it's too bad we got split of from the rest of you, hope to see you next time. I guess I'll send my photos to jcxeon@gmail.com -- not sure if this guy was one of the Tri-states in my group, pretty sure he was. I gotta learn the screen names of everyone I met today, I post mostly in www.jeepforums.com

wow guys....i didnt realize it was that bad!!!
chris you may want to check out that clutch...you smoked it pretty good a few times.
looks like alternators seems to be the common denominator here...
i didnt get you guys into anything too technical did i???

It was great Jason, I'd do it all over again. Next time I want to try some harder trails when I get rid of the nerfs and get some sliders on the ZJ.
Yes if you guys have pictures from the ride. Please email them to me so I can post on the site. jcxeon@gmail.com is my email.

got my new Alternator in and the belt tightened, but im not sure if its too tight or not. I read somewhere that you have to make it tight enough that on the longest run of the belt you cant turn it 90 degrees but it its making a whistling noise, almost sounds like i have a supercharger under my hood haha sounds sweet but im concerned that its too tight. Any ideas?

That's right.. 90 degrees.. Don't worry about being a little tight. Those belts tend to "Break In " You should check it at least twice in the near future.. Something like 100 mi and 200 mi.. I know for a fact they stretch a little.
It's fun making that adjustment isn't it?? Damned Engineers..

on yea big time fun, espically when you broke the tensioner belt bolt and had to fish a wing nut down there to jury rig it.
i maybe should try to make it a little bit tighter maybe, b/c it is pretty noisy, but my alt. is working i got 14.06v at the bat.
