Welp, its time to upgrade the gears in my Xj...ive got a 97 xj 4.0 5spd and i am going to be running 32's on it really soon...im wondering (since no one on naxja will give me a straight up answer all they say is go with 4.56's) what ratio will set me back at stock or close to it?
You have stock 4.10 or? 3.73?
If 3.73 I think 4.10 will bring you back and if 4.10 get 4.56 and 4.88 if you got ot 33's or bigger I think... Hope this helps? :P

OK, so you want to set it back to stock, the equation is simple:
(new tire size) * (old gear ratio) / (old tire size) = back to stock specs
that being said.....
Here is the equation for my set up
33 * 3.73 / 27 = 4.56
Mine actually came with 3.07 but 3.73 was an option which is why I put it in there. I am not sure why Jeep even uses 3.07. They are useless.

I am a NAXJA member I did not see your post there is sometimes to much to keep up with. Your gears you are wondering about. 4:10 - 4:56 thats if you origonally had 3:55. If you are planning going bigger like 33's I would go for the 4:56 gears.
My question for you is what axles do you have? I would not recomend a 4:56 in a Dana 35 in the rear. to much heat not enough oil. seen them cook the bearings before, several times. that then leads to pinion failure.I would be glad to help you out if you have anymore questions. pm me or call if you need prices on those gears and instals.
