Hi guys,
How hot does your jeep run and what temp thermostat do you have in it? Mine runs at like 235F :coffee: with a 195 thermostat so i decided to change to a 180 thermostat. I'm having all kinds of problems with the housing, but will the 180 be cold enough? I'm hoping for it to run around 210. Do you think the problem could be someware else? Do i need to replace he radiatior?

Thanks,
Cody

Mine runs below 210 mostly. I have not tested my new t-stat on the highway but when the t-stat kicks in the temp goes down fast and stays at like 190-200ish. Check your radiator fan clutch. Make sure the fan is spinning. Mine spins all the time when the motor is on (of course) I am moving to electric so I can have more control on the temp and when doing water crossings and high rpm slow moving areas on the trails.

Hope this helps out!!! If any of those are not the case. Start looking for a 3 core raditor for your Jeep. I think you have a YJ I see some on eBay for $80 ish and nice nice aluminum ones for $200 ish...

From what I remember the 4cyl ran a little hotter than the 6cyl. My 4cyl ran around 210deg. If you haven't flushed the cooling system in a while make sure you do that first.

There should be no problem with the 195 thermostate you need to look other places as to why it is getting so hot. Is your cat plugged or what condition is your radiator in. I would also check your fan clutch they do go bad. Those old jeep radiators in those 4cly they always rotted out so make sure you check both side of the radiator. Then you can also check your coolant too much antifreeze will make you run hot.

i just changed the termostat to a 180 and now my jeeps runs like 190 or so. I think the 195 i had in there was defective and was not opening. When i took the housing off, the fluid inside the block was all brown and gross...but in the raiator it was green. I think it was not flowing past that point. I also fushed the coolent and it now runs great. thanks for the ideas though
