I will be attending. This will be my first time, in a stock 2004 Unlimited; is there anything I need to do to prepare my Jeep for the trip? Like remove the side steps; remove the carpet; update my will?

Thanks

check out paragon's web site and get the waiver filled out and such before you get there and make sure the jeep meets requirements. other than that it's up to you what you want to do. taking the carpet and drain plugs out might not be a bad idea though. i imagine that it will be muddy. herculine it if you're really feeling ambitions, one of the best mods i did.

anyway, i'm gonna go ahead and say i'm in for this ride. frame repairs are proceding well, got the side panels cutout along with the bottom so i should be ready to go by the 30th.

I'm pretty sure I'm in.

Ryan- take off the steps if you want to keep them nice looking. I guess you can leave them on for rocker protection if they dont hang down below the frame and reduce ground clearance. If you are staying on green/blue trails it should'nt matter either way.

Are the Side Steps tied into the frame or bolted to the body??

Remove the carpeting but,.....I would NOT remove the drainplugs.. That's what keeps the water out. Only remove them to drain it if the water get's in.. When I went in, my floor filled up with water because one fo my plugs were missing. Otherwise it would have probably stayed dry.

You will need a tow hook in the front and rear. Also get a tow strap ( Without hooks) . Set yourself up with a portable CB so you can stay in touch with the other rigs... Mine runs off a Cigarette Lighter Plug and Magnetic Antenna so it's transferrable to other rigs...

If you need help setting up your Heep let me know I'm only 15 minutes from you..

Looks like I'm sitting this one out... Zook's ripped apart and Heep is not doing well...

Correction, all you need is one tow point be it in the front or back. You dont need a tow strap but if you do no hooks, they will check. Those are the park rules. But it is much better if you have tow points front and rear. It helps a lot if you get stuck. Hope this helps out.

The side steps are bolted to the frame. It is a stock setup, so they should be easy to remove. I may just leave them on tol help protect the rocker panels since I don't have real rocker gaurds. I will probably get a CB before the 30th, so I can keep in contact with the group. Also, doors on or off? I am thinking doors off, as well as the soft top, I don't want to rip it. Oh, and a friend of mine will be making the trip with me. Thanks for the tips.

wait and see what the weather is. if it's nice though i would take everything off. better visibility and just plain more fun  i will say though that if you tires stick out past your flares a bit, you will get muddy on this run. went on a ride last summer without the doors on and came back filthy on the left side

One more question. My windshield has a crack about 12 inches long starting from the bottom middle. Will the folks at Paragon over look this, or do I need to get a new windshield before the 30th?

You dont even need a windsheild... :) Dont worry about it. Its your state that worries about it :)

be careful on the tires sticking out past the fenders....if your from PA the pa state cops like to sit out side of paragon and nail people for just that violation and they are pretty proud of that fact....cost me $105 last time i had it happen...

yeah i've heard that they're strict about that. I'm from NY though and the cops around here don't even give you a second look for it. usually i get there early enough that the gates aren't even open yet so there usually isn't anyone sitting outside. :D

At this point, I am in. I let the wife know and so far it's a go. The only thing that would hold me back is my tire carrier. My Warn tire carrier is defective and Warn is sending UPS to pick it up Monday. So if the turnaround with Warn is quick, and I can put this on the TJ, then I am in. Otherwise I am out unless I take out the back seat and try to fit it in the back with the rest of my trail supplies

yup, that's the jeep. what's really scary is that's what was lurking under that bubble on the frame when we were running through those mud pits. now you see why i didn't bring the jeep on the feb run. here's what it looks like now:

everything was done with my craftsman mig and flux wire.

nope no gas. flux burns hotter for better penetration with the 110 welder i'm using. i had no idea it was that bad either until i started poking at it with a screwdriver. ended up with a pile of iron oxide on the ground that would have filled a sandwich baggy nicely. mmmmm, jeep frame

So you did that welding with a 110 welder?

It looks pretty nice...

I'm looking to buy a welder soon..

What kind of welder do you have and do you like it?

What type of wire are you using?

Does it weld well without the gas?

How about rocker protection? Will I be OK without it if I stick to the green and blue trails? I can probably get a set of A to Z Rockers before the 30th, but I may not be able to get them installed.

I am a little concerned about not having rocker protection for this first run, since the unlimited has a longer wheel base.

just a note to anyone bringing someone under 18, PAP has a new minor form that is supposed to be notarized prior to arriving at the park. I don't know how strict they are about enforcing this yet as it's only about a month since they implemented it but you might want to email them about it for details. here's the PDF link to the form:

http://www.paragonap.com/adobedocs/Minor%20Forms.pdf

the link on their web page is hidden by the April 23-25 text on the main site in case you're wondering where i found this.

The two guys and I that are coming are planning on getting there around 8:00 so we can watch the video. Should we notify PAP we'd like to see it, or can we just show up and watch it? I think it said somewhere on PAPs sight you should contact them to watch the video. BTW- I just got my Rusty's towhooks installed, so I now have front and rear towpoints and am legal for any trail. But I don't plan on going on anything above blue. :D

Thinking of going (if I can get away), but have a question. I know Paragon requires 3 vehicles per group.

My question is, how many people are going to go on the beginner / intermidate trails and how many are going on the other ones.

I just want to make sure that I will be able to meet the 3 vehicle requirement.

most of us will be running the green and blues. there's another thread somewhere that has a poll going of who's running what.

not to worry, there's someone running what you want to run
