Hi Guys, :help:
I finaly got my posi lock installed but i have a few questions about using 4-wheel drive. Do I engage the posi lock first or use the transfer case lever first. The transfer case only seems to move if at dead stop. Is it ok to shift it while stoped? i have always heard that this is bad for the gears. The posi lock will only ingage if moveing slow but I have to be stoped to dis engage it? I'm a little confused. Also, why couldn't I just leave the transfer case in 4-wheel drive and use the posi lock control to put it in and out of 4-wheel drive by it self? Is it ok to use the 4-wheel drive on slippery highways or is the 4-wheel drive only designed for slow use. (high range about 55 mph)

I'm a little confused about this posi lock thing so thanks in advance,
Cody :wall:

your case should be shift on the fly up to about 40 mph. if it's hard to move while rolling, try using it more often. mine shifts hard at the beginning of the winter, but by this time of the year it will shift at just about any speed. i've heard of guys having problems engaging at speed on older jeeps though so yours might need a rebuild. you have to be stopped to move to low range though. engaging the posilok is much the same. i've always found it better to engage the case first, to get the inner shaft spinning at the same speed to help line up the splines. i find that if i'm trying to engage the posi first the collar is moving faster than the inner shaft so it doesn't work all that often. having to stop and roll back or forward a little bit seems to be normal for the posi, i have to back up about half a wheel rev most of the time to get it to come loose. 4hi is meant for road use in the snow (not the rain) up to highway speed, but if you need 4wd then you don't need to be going that fast. we don't need another guy out there with 4wd thinking he can do 65 just because he's got it. as far as leaving the case engaged, you can do it, but since it's easier to disengage the t-case usually, i do it the opposite way. leave the posi engaged and select with the case as needed. i do this all the time when the main roads are bare but the side roads are still slick. leaving it like this all year long though isn't a good idea since you'll put more wear on parts that normally wouldn't be spinning most of the time. In less words :D

What works for me. In 2hi first gear I start moving alittle and start turning the posi thing. And when I feel it slide in thats when I put it into 4hi. But yes you should be able to go from 2hi to 4 hi while moving as long as your wheels are moving at the same speed :D.

Hope this helps!
