So, for the last month or so I have heard this funny noise whenever I made a sharp turn. It sounded like keys sliding back and forth somewhere in or behind the dash. I figured I'd wait 'till I took the hard top off in April, flip down the windshield, put in a new rubber gasket, and figure out where the "keys" were. Well, Friday morning my wipers died. I could hear the motor humming, so I new I had power, but figured "hey is an '89, these things happen". Now, I know my YJ was repainted by the original owner and I figure the windshield hinges are going to be a B*$ch to even move a little so I spray them with some PB blaster and let 'em sit. Saturday morning I start on the left one, decide the only way is to unbolt the windshield so I don't crack the glass, break a bolt, cut a few nuckles, but finally get it to move. now I start on the left one... break another bolt, cut up my hands some more and finally get it to move, but it just snaps off right above the hinge! OK I'm cursing and spitting and all so I decide to take a break. GO out and order a new wiper motor and the new hinges and come home.
I lay the windshield down on a blanket on the hood and start to play around with the motor. It works. so I start poking around and what do I find in the channel where the wiper arms are... a very rusty kitchen knife  I don't know why it was in there, but it was jambed between the arms and the frame.

So now:
new hinges...$60.00
new bolts...$10
new gasket...$30
wiper motor...$75 (going to return)
box of Band-aids...$5
headache...priceless
But I still love my Jeep
Sorry for the rant, I just needed to tell someone!

Sounds like my jeep when I first got it. The blower motor was seized because of a bolt wedged in it and there was a wrist watch hanging out of the floor vent in the heater box.

I found a birds nest and lots of rags in my engine compartment. Also found very jimmy rigged wires under the dash... :) But it runs and thats what matters :)

thats ok i got a good one....

was doing rust repair on my now long sold 66 Bronco....was owned by an old farmer. and since they are known for the door posts to rot out i started pokin around and figured out i had to replace mine cause they were rusted really bad.

took off the front clip and found that the previous owner (old farmer) had already tried to fix the drivers side by welding an old lawnmower blade and a short piece of 3/1" thick flat stock across the back of the hinges and covering it with fiberglass and undercoating.
