Just wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a family wheelin' trip to the George Washington National Forest for a few days of wheelin' fun... I'm thinking of Mid April.... :?:
There are quite a few Legal wheelin' areas down there.. Way more than you could run in a few days... Passes are only $ 5 per day..
Or, does anybody have any other ideas :?: :?:
Spring is almost here..

It's near Harrisonburg Va. About 300 - 350 miles from our area. I've made it down there in about 7 hours or so.. It would have to be a trip for at least three days or so... Overnites, Camping or Cheapo Motels.. I prefer the motels just so I don't have to lug so much gear with me.. Just a suitcase. I need the room for recovery gear and tools ...
The trails are rated moderate to wild.. I'll be running my Cherokee so I can't get too wild..
I'm thinking about installing an Aussie before heading out...8) 8) 8) 8)
Here's a very longgggg link.. ( Don't know how to shorten it)....

The Pine Barrens is another option and it is only about 3 hours from our area... The only problem with that is that it is very wet in the spring and those trails have some deeeep water holes along the way... You really need to have a decent size group (minimum of 4 or 5 ) to wheel safely there..

I spent more than a few years of my misguided youth wheeling the Pine Barrens. Mostly in full-size rigs with 44” tires and big block motors. In the future archeologists will be digging up my broken drive train parts wondering what the hell went on there! You see when I was a kid they didn’t have rocks; we had to go to school in mud bogs 4 feet deep uphill both ways! Ah the memories of burying a 6000# truck with a foot of lift up to the rockers in south jersey muck. Back in the mid 80’s a good Memorial Day weekend would see about 200 rigs playing in the mud.
Sorry I’m having flashbacks.
Lets go bury some jeeps!

Thanks sentinal02 for correcting that link..
rockdawg,
Back in the 80's I also used to wheel 3 wheelers and quads in the barrens and also have seen "unofficial back woods" wheeling events with upwards of 100-150 rigs at once... Those days were really wild... People were setting cars on fire and potato chip vendors driving their delivery vans into these events to sell black market snacks.. There were some pretty cool things going on in there..
I saw some really nice rigs destroyed in there too..
I finally gave it up when my brother crashed and we were escorted out by the Police and State Dep.. The end results were pretty ugly.. The State DEP was young then and the fines were pretty cheap and I got to take my quad home with me...... I wouldn't do it now......
There are some legal areas there now if you know where to go... It's still pretty nice down there. I was there last year with the Zook and was really lost for a few hours.. Now I won't go without my GPS and a a good Winch...
