Lets just say that your dana 35 doesnt really show up in many rock crawling competitions, but you have some hope. you can upgrade to a dana 44 from a grand with all the brackets, but will not be all the much stronger. the dana 44 in a grand has an aluminum center which is weaker than the steel. so you could swap in a dana 44 from a wrangler. the dana 35 has 27 spline and the 44 has 30 spline. more splines = strength
so about difs. a spool locks both axle shafts together all the time. a locker locks the axles together all the time under power, like a spool, but will alow it to unlock around turns or not under power. a limited slip will help the axles reach the same torque load but will usually not reach total lockup like a spool. a limited slip will be a big difference from an open diff and will still be streetable.

cool so what do you think would be the best investment for my weekend warrier..........also should i do it up front or out back?
When and if I get a locker. I am going to lock the front because I can disengage the front axle so I wont even see a difference with the locker when I am turning on the road. :D

youll want some sort of an engagable locker up front, you dont always want it on off-road. For example just cruiseing through the trails or on tight turns you DONT want a front locker on.
When Im wheeling, I keep my rear locker on the entire trip, and I fluctuate my front locker when needed.

You may want to look into a Super 35 kit for you situation. YOu get the better axel shafts and a locker. As per your sig you are only running 31s so as long as you don't absolutley beat the hell out of your jeep offroad or plan on going 35s or bigger the super 35 kit is a good option.

x2 Id do the back first. The front is definatly optional

super 35 kit is just like polishing a turd in my opinion. I would suggegest you start out back and if you want real good streetability you can do a selectable locker the super 35 kit only makes it as strong as a stock 44 Bit the bullet and do a rear 44 with a selectable locker and then you don't need to worry about changing the way your vehicle performs on road. But it will perform much better off road.
If you need a Dana 44 housing or a super 35 kit I have them both. we can get you set up with one at a great price when you are ready

The Ford 8.8" or 9" is also a good replacement for the D35 and depending on what year you pull it from, you'll have rear disk brakes too. You also want to think about your gearing, if your gonna run the bigger meats, you're definatly going to want to regear. As far as lockers, if you have the fundage, go with the selectable locker, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

I wanna upgrade my rear 35 and i have heard a lot of talk about the ford 8.8 how easy of a swap would it be on a cherokee what would i have to do to make it work? would it hold up to 35" tires that is the biggest i would ever want to go, more like 33 with my current lift.

I would put a dana 44 in the rear before anything else you get more options with it. better shafts ,brakes ,locker and gear selection. you also get a non c-clip axle.

Thats what i would really like to do, is find a dana 44 out of a older cherokee so i dont have to find someone to weld on spring plate and i could just bolt it up. Know of anyplace i could find one?
