I need to know what they mean by battery tie down. Do I just take a ratching tie down and put it around the battery and its holder?

Thanks! 8)

i don't know about a ratcheting tie down, but i know they won't accept a bungee cord. but usually what they want is a bar going across the top of the battery that attaches to two posts on either side of the battery. the post hook to the tray and everything gets tightened up. you can see one here in the pic from quadratec:

this if a dual tray, but you can see the hold down. I wouldn't pay what they want for one of their hold downs though ($60, yeah right). a piece of 1/4" x 1.5 wide flat stock and some 1/4" threaded rod will work just as well if you want to fab your own. there should be some notches on the side of the tray that the upright post hook into, so just heat up the rod with a torch and bend a U in one end, then cut to length. drill two hols in the end of the flat stock and slip it down on the post, throw some nuts on it, tighten it up and call it a day. doesn't have to be pretty, just functional. be careful when tightening it up that you don't crack the battery casing. you might also look in a parts store for a kit for cheaper that quadratec. I have a bar going across and you have to tighten the two wing nuts at the end. Should I just out a strap across just in case? I will take a picture in a few minutes.

That tie down is all you need. As long as your battery won't fall out.

The usually test is someone grabs the battery and gives it a good shake, feeling if it is loose. I used a couple pieces fo angle iron to make the hold down in my bronco. My CJ just uses the tomken dual battery tray.

The one of the reasons is to prevent your battery from arcing against the body and causing a spark and fire.
