View Full Version : Wanted: 16" Electric Cooling fan
Looking for a 16" radiator fan for my Jeeper. Brand really does not matter. Looking to spead about $30 for the fan and $25 for wires and relays/soleniods.
If you have anything let me know :) Thanks!

Just a thought- do a search for ford taurus fan on pirate4x4.com This seems to be a popular conversion on wranglers. It's a 2 speed unit. I would think junkyards are full of them.

I have an electric fan for you.. Should fit your jeep just fine.. I'll trade you for my membership fees and a sticker... I'll bring it to the Feb. ride if you want...
Just curious, why do you need it???

That fan takes so many amps when running. Its liek over 30 amps... I did that research and I opted for like one from Jegs. If I did the ford one. I would need a larger alternator soleniods and lots of wiring... :) Thanks for the post!

I need it for my YJ. Take the fan off the motor. It will give me some more power and it will let my engine warm up alittle faster... :) Rod can you shoot me a picture? Thanks!

I'm planning on doing the taurus fan myself along with an alternator upgrade. mainly because of the CFM's it will pull. from what i've heard the cheaper store bought models don't pull as hard and run more with a bigger engine. if you're planning on keeping the 4 cyl then you'll be fine, but i'm looking at a 6 or 8 cyl swap in the future so I figure I'll go straight to the taurus. alterstart's got a 135 amp alt for $75 for the CJ's which use the same alternators as the 87-90 2.5 and the 4.2's so it should be a direct swap. i figure why do it twice. and besides, for $200 or so i get an electric fan and an upgraded alt which will further increase my 4 banger's performance (alt's get harder to turn with more current draw)
I am planning on keeping the 4 banger for atleast a few years. But my plans are to get a 6 from a new YJ or Cherokee. Or if my engine busts just get a new multi port fuel injected 4 banger from a TJ. That would make me happy. I really like the 4 banger it gives me a reason to drive slow and easy :). If I got a V8 Pssh... I would not have any tire tread ever... :)
So I am taking up on Badzooks offer. Thanks everyone for your input.
One other question... almost forgot
How would I rigg up a temp sensor? I have seen people do some plumbing and put it inline with the water pump. And others that seem like it just attaches to the raditor or goes inside somehow. Whats the best way to go and easiest that will be reliable?
Thanks again! 8)

I had an electric fan on my old blazer that had a copper temp sensor that slid around the edge of the rad hose and into the hose where it meets the radiator. it was connected at the other end to a dial that could be adjusted for temp. I installed a switch inline of the power source to turn off the fan so It did not turn the engine compartment into a washing machine when i went thru deep water.

they have temp sensors that slip between the fins of the rad. probably the easiest way to install a sensor. wire it up so it automatically comes on at a given temp. just make sure it's at the return end of the system so you're reading the temp of the coolant coming from the engine, not going to it.
