So I've got a Sony Vaio laptop with a cracked screen. Anyone know where I can get a screen for a PCG-TR3A? Most places are $200 up to $800. Anyone have a broken one with a good screen?? Any computer techs with a deal?

your best bet it to ebay it as a broken laptop and take whatever you get and put it towards a new laptop. I checked all my suppliers and the cheapest i could find new as 395 for the screen. For a few bucks more you can get a new dell with a 15.5" screen for $599.

I'm tryin to avoid doing that. I'm going to try and pull it apart sometime soon. Hopefully its only a damaged ribbon.

yea sry man, i checked with my supliers as well, new screen will run ya 250 atleast, ur best bet is ebay a broken laptop with the same screen as urs and it should be plug and play...or should we say plug and pray....is the screen actualy cracked or just not working, you said might be a damaged ribben? If its cracked ur gonna need a new one, if theres just no video, it could be a number of other problems. Sorry, but screens by them selves are almost as expencive as a new computer....most of us techs consider laptops disposible unless they got a good warentee

might wanna try somthing like this, i suggest e-mailing the seller your exact laptop specs to make sure it will Plug and play, but this is probaly a cheeper alturnitive to buying one form a normal supplier

The screen is totally F'ed. Completely shattered LCD. Guy that gave it to me didn't drop it, he must have jumped on it.

Thanks, but the laptop has a 10.6" XBRITE TFT screen. They're going for $400+ now. Stupid Sony. Everything else sells for pennies comparatively. I've been keepin an eye out, but not finding any real deals.

theres deff no fixing that, you would need to buy a new one, and thats an oldschool tiny screen. Your better off putting up a few extra bucks and just getting a whole new laptop for like 599. Would be faster, bigger screen and just better overall

A very good point. I might be getting a new LCD for $200, so we;ll see. It's basicaly just going to be a business computer, and I don't need anything nuts. We'll see how prices go. Hell, if I fix it, these still go for $750+ on Ebay.

Well, just to update this, I bought a similar model Viao, the TR1A, (Same platform, slower chip than the TR3A) but it had a beat motherboard. $300 shipped. Swapped the screens, good to go.

Just for kicks, listed the TR1A, with busted screen now attached, as a broken, as is laptop (spared no details, no BS, explained everything was dead) in eBay. It sold for $227!!!

So I got a perfectly good condition Vaio for $73! Not bad!

Love eBay. I sold a dead Compaq laptop, listed it as parts and got nearly $200 for it. I was quite happy!

Sounds like you got a smoken deal too. Thanks for the update.
