I started building a new bumper for the front of my XJ. The original was bent up and had no recovery points. After removing the mangled mess, I found the unibody to be bent where the bumper brackets were. I straightened everything out as best as possible and made this....I still have more plans for it, but i'm going to run it like this for now since I ran out of steel and Argon.

Not sure if you did or not, but make sure you make a whole lotta bracing to secure that bumper good. I've seen many videos of people yanking xj's outta mud and riping the bumper off.

Yes, I was going to say. You need to brace a lot. Look at the recovery point kits they make. They have a few brackets that bolt to all holes found on that front end. Scott made lots of bracing on his bumper for his XJ and its has proven to be strong. He has bracing on the sides and even the middle. Good luck! It looks good and simple and will do the job.

Thanks for the info guys, and yes, I did make some braces for it. Just didn't take pics of them. There are 5 bolts on each side to distribute the weight and provide extra strength. Ran into a prob. when I put the LH one on because two of the steering box bolts broke off, so I had to remove the box, drill out the bolts and retap the box. The aluminum spacer thet the box is against also broke apart, so I had to make some sleeves for the bolts to go through. I still don't have everything back together yet. This turned into a bigger project then I anticipated.
