The only thing that might bring it down is the trans. New type no gears just a belt that has different amounts of tension for the different ratios.

Just my opinion

awd is an option, you can get a loaded limited with leather and nav for 24k and it gets 30mpg i was actually looking at getting one as a commuter car, but its a bit out of my price range right now.

It's a Nissan source trans that I am told has been tested oversea's for a few years with very little problems before being introduced here. The little engine in that will make it hard to overstress the unit.

The AWD's only get mid 20's fuel numbers. Lots of drag in the system, but it's pretty capable for a car.

Hmm its got the same transmission as the Dodge Caliber? Hows that sound system? Did you get the one with the 400 or so watt from the factory?

Yup, it's the same platform. I know the Caliber is a decent little car. A respectable commuter or hot college chick car. ;-)

My latest car and driver tested the jeep compass and gave it pretty good reviews. They got 24mpg with their "spirited driving" in an awd limited. So i think 30mpg highway would be no problem
