hey guys/girls. just introduced to this site tonight. From jersey, and have an 88 YJ, and soon to be another truck, but ill get to that in a second. Just a rundown for those interested:
4.2 Auto
Dynomax muffler
holley carb
warrior 1 1/4" shackles
34x10.5 super swamper tsls (measure 32" )
bunch of other stuff...

and the lightbar up now...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/stolenxideas/LightbarSide.jpg
but with my string of luck, i stripped gears in the rear, and drove home in front wheel drive sorta, and blew u joints ot peices, bent the d shaft, etc....resulting in this:

so i found a set of axles (d44 rear, d30 front, posi lok, 4:56, all rebuilt and beefed up with diff gaurds, etc) for $800 off a cherokee. i call the guy, he said throw some wheels on it and take the whole truck for that much. so im gunna put these axles in, and do the engine swap so i have fuel injection. axles, i just need to find someone with a welder, and im set. im clueless with the whole engine thing though...
hoping i can get it all done ASAP, and see some people out in the woods

well, anyone have an estimate on the cost to bring it somewhere to do the swap?
or is it possible to make the 4.2 fuel injected using parts from the 4.0?
i honestly don't think i could do the engine swap without someone who really knew what they were doing

Welcom to the boards Why not use the XJ for wheeling? Its already got all the desireables in it.
Give me a call sometime I could work out a few options for you. I think your about 1 hour and 45 min. from me. Brick is that next to Wall NJ?

the color...PO did the paint job himself. not the best, but its pretty much strictly a trail rig/woods truck, i have a grand marquis for a DD haha...and a professional paint job isnt a major concern to me, but i love the color also, and love the looks i get in it. It is a paint he picked up at pep boys, forget the exact name, but im sure youd know it if you saw it. goober green or something like that
heres another 2 shots of it clean...so you can see the color better. its before the rear add a leafs though, so the rear is sagging a bit

also have tj fender flares sitting in my room waiting to be put on
also, i already have the yj registered and all that good stuff, plus i really really like the wrangler, always liked them even since i was a kid. a lot of stuff is missing off the xj already due to him selling some parts off of it. nothing mechanically already, but, eehh, i really want to stick with the wrangler. brick is kinda by wall, about 15 minutes away.

Welcome to the boards, I'm sure you will enjoy it here, there are quite a few helpful and friendly people around here. Good to see another NJ wheeler, it seems we are getting more and more NJ people signing up. If you check out the thread in the meet and greet, I believe its a sticky. It's a little map where you type in your location and it shows everyone on this site. It's good so if you want to go wheeling you know whose around you.
I agree with RockreadyXJ that you should just fix up the XJ a little bit and then you can have a truck you can drive on the street and wheel the heck out of.
But if your set on wheeling and fixing up the YJ give us a call at TRC-Offroad. We've done many motor swaps to YJ's, CJ's, XJ's etc. We also do custom fabrication along with lift installs etc.
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask the guys on the board or to email or pm me personally. We are here to help each other.

well, why couldnt i have the yj on the road as well as offroad like i could the xj? i drove the yj all the time before i messed it up. its a shame you guys are so far...cause im gunna need shock mounts, spring perches cut off and re-welded on the axles. also, eventually for the engine swap. could you send me a PM for a quote? maybe ill just hold onto the engine and get it down later on down the line professionally.

well you could of course make the YJ a daily driver I was just saying with the XJ you would have more cargo space and with the longer wheelbase it'll be more stable in the winter time and on slippery roads etc.
You said you have a daily driver, so if you wanted to drop the truck off at our shop for a couple days we could do the work for you, and then you could come pick it up.
I'm sending you a pm so we can talk a little further and see if we can come up with a good solution that suits your needs pefectly.
Matt
