I know it's pretty ghetto but I'm a poor father. It gave me an increase in throttle response and I'm low balling it at about 5 extra hp. I am hoping I see a mpg increase. I heard that it gave another guy driving a dakota a 3 mpg increase and he has the 360 as well. I know I won't realistically see that since I'm a lot heavier. The setup cost me $40 from Auto Zone. What do you guys think?

Looks good! But I doubt you will get an extra 3 MPG. Thats a big jump. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah I don't think it will be that big of an increase (the guy has a much lighter truck than mine that got 3 mpg) but I just filled up today so I'll do the math on my next fill up.

Alright, so you tunneled your intake into the front of your grill? Riddle me this. When you drive into a deep puddle and make that wake with your grill normally the airbox will be fine cause it's behind the wake. But when tis sucking in air from the front then wouldnt it just be like pouring water into your intake? Tis a clever idea, but you might wanna consider the possabilities. Also you can say "oh i'll never go through water that deep" but how can you tell when you're going to be the guinnie pig and test the waters first? Heh.

HAHA I have no problem being the guinea pig! I have already thought about that just for rain and so I made sure I could disconnect it rather easily. Right where it goes into the air box I can pull the hose, which I did on a rainy day. The rain only made it halfway so I won't be disconnecting in the rain anymore but when wheeling through deep stuff it would only be a matter of disconnectingthe hose at the box and possibly adding one to go into the fenders like the stock intake does. It really is a nice setup and when I get to NV I will propably never see much more mud or water.

ok well if it was disconected when it was raining and made it half way when its conected its pulling the air into it there for it could go rite into the intake

Correct me if im wrong

I was driving at highway speeds fat. The water would have gone all the way through either way. The engine is not sucking more than the air is being forced if you catch my drift. It is a temporary solution to a ram air hood and intake box which I will be going for. But the whole setup after paint will propably cost me around $1,300 so I'm pretty happy with it. I am at a 1/4 of a tank of gas right now so we will see how much I gained. The only thing is that I have been running at 80 mph instead of my normal 75 because the D want's to go a lot more now. I believe I am in the area of +1 mpg right now even though I've been driving faster.

you do know that true ram air is a myth right? i'm not saying you can't improve the way your engine breaths with this setup, but the belief that you can actually force more air into the combustion chamber this way is just physically impossible. :wtg:

Well what I do know about it is this, it will force as much air as the engine will take and won't leave the engine pulling like it does with a stock air box. Also the air will be way cooler than if it came from the engine compartment. It is basically the same idea as forced induction only it works at higher speeds. I do know what you're saying as far as the engine only taking as much as it can take. Everything stock is just way to restrictive.

that's the thing, it's not. the theory behind a ram air setup is that you can force more air into the engine just by funneling it down through the intake via a scoop and driving faster. in reality you can't. air doesn't become compressable due to the force generated by a moving object until you start reaching supersonic speed. forced induction uses a mechanical compressor, either a turbo or super charger to do this. as you said though you're pulling cooler air and using a less restrictive path to get air to the engine so that's why you're looking at all the benefits. i would call it a CAI though :wtg:

Okay I see what you're saying now as far as the air compression goes. You know one thing though, IT LOOKS COOL AS HELL! :lmao:
