I just wanted to be 100% sure that I wired up my cb properly before I go and buy a new one here's a diagram and my ground is good I tested a fuse with a test light grounded to the bolt

/------------- - Grounded to a bolt on the firewall
cb
\------------- + fuse box

I think the cb is shot because I was sold a bad lighter plug that shorted out my lighter adapter so it propably took out the cb as well...

Also how many amps does a cb usually pull I have a 10 amp fuse and if I go bigger I need a different setup.

skip the lighter plug for now and just jump it right to the battery. just for testing purposes to be sure that the radio powers up and works. you will need to have the antenna and possibly the mic installed in order to get any kind of signal. as for the amperage draw, most sets don't draw more than 2-3 amps. you'll be fine with a 10 and you might want to try a 5 for better protection.

jfr, the most widely used channels for off roading are usually 16 (4x4) and 4. you can try them first if you're stuck and need help or looking for someone to hook up with. you might want to try listening in for a while before calling out though. i've heard of a couple times where local rangers and such use those channels for their own communications and it's landed a few people in trouble for being where they shouldn't be :hahaha:
