make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing. i know pool wiring has a special code that you need to follow, beyond the general residential wiring code. the box can't be within X number of feet of the water for this type of box, Y number of feet for that type, etc. but beyond that kind of stuff 220 is a simple 3 wire conductor to run with the appropriate breaker. shouldn't cost too much.
You need a GFI circuit breaker at the box. Then run huge rated higher then you need cable. Use solid core wire for a permenant install.
Hope this helps. Also, you might want to have someone with a lisence or experience check all the work before it goes live. 220 and all voltages can be dangerous. Its not the volts that kill you, its the amps. I think .4 amps can kill you.

thanks.. obviously i have no idea when it comes to electrical.. i know basics but not enough so id get someone that knows a lot more than me... i was wondering if you could give me a ballpark of how much $ it would cost to see if its worth getting the the free hot tub
The cost is really in the cable and GFI breaker. The breaker is like $50 I think, and the cable is a few bucks a foot. Depends on the gauge and the sheilding it has. We layed down a plastic conduit and put the wires through there. You are probalyl looking atleast $150. Then you have to get plugs and boxes and stuff.
hey phil gimme a call.... but heres a rough idea what your gonna need... gfi breaker, probably 6 gauge wire depends on how many amps the tub draws, a disconnect box mounted outside by the tub not within 10', a way to get into the tub with the wires depends on where you are putting the tub? a couple of wire nuts. How nice a hot tub is it? some go for alot of money probably worth getting it shouldnt be a ton for materails. or could just zip tie some wires up and duct tape them together haha

In my HVAC job we do some service work for McDonalds. Well they take things apart to clean them and cant remember how to put them back. So here are tricks i have learned from their employees.
Bandaids, paper wrappers, saran wrap, and gum works as electrical tape.
If you have an extra wire, just ground it under any random screw.
Jumping things with a fork will always resolve the problem.
If the wire is too short then wrap a paperclip around the bare wire and tighten that clip under the desired screw.
If something doesnt work right then make sure you hit it with a screwdriver handle a few times.
I hope this helps.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: i worked as an electrician's assistant in college and often saw similar stuff.
xj, if the tub is free, i would say get it. materials should be under $100 unless your breaker box is all the way on the other side of the house. and you can't beat free stuff. :wtg:
