hmm, starting to look like all the boxes i had when i did mine. lol. posilok, BDS, CB, lights. you sure you're not working on my rig? just as a tip, if you're looking for a place to put switches, i've found that the area on the under side of the dash (the piece you have lying on the floor of the tub there) is perfect for toggle switches. I have two there, one for my bumper lights up front and one for the rear work light. they're out of the way and don't interfere with the heater controls or the radio. you just need to cut out the little dust plate in there to give yourself some room for the switch wires. kinda depends on the switch though. just figured i'd share since you've got it off

Well you will see how I have mine. See I built a custom console and my radio is in that. Where the radio was is where my switches are going. The CB is below the heater controls. I took out the ash tray because I dont smoke :)

same here. just ordered a new mic for it since i found out it wasn't picking up my voice when i went out with Bad. was Xmitting but it wasn't picking up anything to send. tried it with my PA and it wasn't working there so it's gotta be the mic. noise cancelling mic here i come. lol. one of these days i'll get around to remaking the entire dash. planning on building in a lockable housing for the radios, sort of like the tuffy consoles, but integrated right into the dash, all new gauges and locations, some added gauges like tranny temp, stochiometric, etc. i like to know exactly what my engine is doing and have numbers to go with it. idiot lights suck! that's a ways down the road though. first comes the locker (march i'm hoping :) ), OBA, custom half hardtop and new bumpers. those are teh big mods i have planned for this year. Then next year will likely be my engine/tranny/axle swap unless something breaks before hand. after that then i'll probably look into the dash. you get shocks with that kit or did you just change yours recently?

Gotta love those military wrap springs... Great Choice. Thay ride nice and are darn near indestructable... There's no way you'll break one of those baby's..
Guess you have your work cut out for you now.... Since you had no school today the Lift should be in and just about finished right?? LOL

Anyway I was going to work on it but now I have to go to a birthday party maybe I will cut early and start pulling off the old springs. I really want someone to come by and help but no one seems to want to help me (my freinds) I know you guys want to but too far away for just a few hours of work. Badzook hopefully I will see you Saturday!

Well the Jeeps getting tehre as you can see. Today I just cleaned up alittle bit, put bolts and stuff into bags so they are not lost. Put tools in piles so they are not lost and cleaned up so my pops did not make a big deal about it. Tomarrow Scott is comming over again I think and we are going to finished the back end and finish what is left. Then badzook is comming to pick up the t-case and see see whats going on. Hes going to install the SYE kit for me and maybe he will have it back by Saturday then if Scott wants to he can drop by again... and help reinstall it and measure up driveshaft so I can get it ordered and have them ship it out to me. THen I will be basically up and running. There are a few things I need to do liek get longer brake lines and stuff but I hope I can get those ordered soon.

Yesterday Scott and I finished up the back. Got the rear brake line extender in and installed the posi-lok filled fluids and some other misc stuff. So its really far along! We just need to get the SYE installed to the t-case, install the t-case, measure length of driveshaft, order the new CV shaft, get that installed, and I hope I am ready! :) Thanks again Scott!

SYE FINSIEHD!!! only took 2 days...

Story...

Ok so we took it all apart yay 2 hours...

Took bearings out of thing easy... put all gears on new shaft cake....

Put the whole t-case together. We put the oil pump on the inside of the t-case because thats how we thought it went... (bad move)

Now we got it all sealed up and perdy we torque the rear yoke.... we get to about 30lbs and we hear a clank and an echo inside the case... ok must be wrench... pull it a few more times and clank again... we are like darn. That was day one...

Day two

Took it all apart find out that we broke two tabs off the oil filter... found one... but lost the other one... so we had to take the whole thing out even the rear gears and stuff that most people dont take out (image). Found it
http://tri-state4x4.tsrealm.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/normal_reargearout.JPG

Now we found it we reinstalled it all together again with oil filter inside again... broke another tab then we were liek oh shizzal the oil filter goes on the outside... so thats what those wholes for the tabs are for... stupid us. We had the tabs tig welded back onto the oil filter sealed all up and happy us we got it together. We wasted like 10 hours o well in the end its all good. All done and works liek a dream! Tomarrow is the reinstall into the Jeep :) fun fun

Slip Yoke Elminator

Basically strengthens your t-case and makes you driveshaft longer making drive angles less

Todays work:

Got the t-case installed and fill it all with fluids. Topped off tranny fluids and cleaned the garage alittle. Cant test it all until I get this bolt we snapped off on the tranny support. So... I might be able to get this thing moving by the end of the week :).

slip yoke eliminator... gets rid of the typical shitty jeep slip yoke setup that is prone to vibes and can come off when lifted high enough. This setup puts a fixed yoke on the output of the tcase and then puts the slip part in the driveshaft giving jeeps what they should have had from the factory

They are acually marine switches. Like the switches you will see on a boat. I bought a whole panel of them on ebay for $40. They are water resistant on the face. They have lights in them. They are made by Carling Switches. You can get them custom made but they are like $10 a switch. Thats why I went on ebay and bought a whole set. :D Hope you can find something nice! You can try an electronics store. They can order them for you if they dont have them in stock. Hope this helps!

The shaft should be comming in soon. See the problem is that they moved there shop... and then they did not have phone or interenet at the shop. So when I called it was just like a no such number message. So I emailed them and they repsonded within a few hours telling me that they will make it and ship it out on Tuesday. So I should be getting it today or sometime next weeek.

Yestreday I spent five hours on cracking the t-case again and resealing the t-case. It went well just really hard when you are 6'3" trying to get under a truck and working on it... But I got it all sealed and today I am going to fill the lub up and check for leaks. I think it should be fine. I almost put half a tube of RTV... Tons more then needed but I want to make sure I dont have a problem. :)

Looked at my speedo again... NOTHING! :(
So I took it apart and put my cordless drill to the end. Turned it and still nothing on the cable. So I pulled the dash area out to get to the speedo. Pulled the speedo out smacked it then hit the trip meter restart. Turned the drill and it friggin worked! Wahoo! Installed the speedo back in the correct way and works perfect now! Well yesterday going down the highway, everythings good, then my speedo dies. So I figure it was the same problem I had before. Put my drill to the cable and the speedo itself was not working. Pulled it out and smacked it jiggled it bam works. Now plug it all in put it all back together pull out of the garage go up driveway nothing on the speedo. So pulled into garage pulled speedo gear out and looked like this...
http://www.tri-state4x4.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/normal_speedogear.JPG

There is a chunk missing... the gear on the shaft is alittle beat up. So now I have to get a new speedo gear and the gear that goes on the sye shaft. Oh great... now I have to pull the t-case apart AGAIN!

Does anyone know why this would randomly happen after it worked for the 300 miles I was able to drive it?

xeon,

Do you remember if you put the last "c" clip in on the rear output shaft before you installed the flange???

There is supposed to be a "C" clip inbetween the Flange and the bearing.

Go under there and grab the Yoke at the T/C. There should be no play front to back at all.. If there is that might be why your gear is getting chewed up... Did you save all of the old parts? You might have that clip lying around..

I would try removing the output flange and see if the clip is locked against the bearing or missing. If it is just replace it the gear inside should be okay.

You may not have to disassemble the whole thing..

Maybe that part you welded up broke loose??

Just some ideas good luck...

I installed everything the c clip are the snap rings or what ever. Tehre are two for the rear part. One that goes near the oil pump and the blue gear and one at the end of the gear going to the bearing. I just dont understand why it would break after wheeling it and beating it up then just goign on to the highway after school on monday it just busted. I ordered all the parts its goign to cost me $30 ish because I need to get new yoke seal new nut, speedo gear and the gear on the shaft. Pain in the butt.

Yea that stinks you had to toss the seats.. ahh carpet is over rated :) I took mine out of the front and it looks so much better with some black diamond plate plastic mats. Let me know if you need some help. If you are free this weekend I would love to drop by and help out. :)

Since you have to beat the Speedo to make it work maybe it is locking up at times and the weak link is the gear in the transfer case? I would make sure that the cable is spinning freely without any drag and lube it up good. I know you’re into dirt bikes so you probably have a cable luber, but if you don’t just spray some lube in there and keep spinning it. Maybe you can take apart the Speedo and have a look to see if something is binding it up?

Since you have to beat the Speedo to make it work maybe it is locking up at times and the weak link is the gear in the transfer case? I would make sure that the cable is spinning freely without any drag and lube it up good. I know you’re into dirt bikes so you probably have a cable luber, but if you don’t just spray some lube in there and keep spinning it. Maybe you can take apart the Speedo and have a look to see if something is binding it up?

When I get my parts I am goign to pull the speedometer out and check it out. Its weird that it just dies but a little smack and push of the trip meter it works... I will lube the heck out of it with cable lube I have for my bike :) (good call by the way).

Sounds like you're gettin' pretty good at that workin' on that T/C. You should be able to do that in under 1/2 hour now..LOL :P :P :P
B

Yea I can rip that bad boy apart in 20 minutes :) The longest part is taking the old RTV off :D. Filling it up with lube takes some time... I have alittle oil pump to get it in there but it still takes time and my body starts to hurt under there...

here's a trick for filling it up. next time you get a thing of gear oil, save the little nozzle. it threads onto the ATF bottle nicely and makes squeezing the fluid into the t-case a snap.

Thinking of the Future here... unless I get the money anytime soon :)

Plans
- Chevy 4.3L Vortec engine
- AX-15 or NV4500
- Ford 8.8 rear 4.10 gears
- Wire everything to exsisting gauges if possible.

Thats the plan... Could change as for what I can get my hands on.

I would need to get 23 spline input for my np231 to fit the ax-15 but I can grab the from the donnar truck or junk yard. I would love this to be a summer project, I just cant deal with the YJ being so unreliable. Everyday I drive it something that needs to be fixed and it just has no power period. I love the 4 banger but my foot needs alittle more :).

Well I brought the Jeep into a shop where a guy from my dads office works sometimes. So I was going to get a new cat but they said I did not need it. But I needed rear brakes. So they did that. Then they see that the right rear e-brake is frozen. (Which happened at Paragon because I remember it being REALLY hard to push down :) WOOPS) And now I they have to wait for parts. No I might not be able to take it wheeling this Friday :(. But Scott is nice enough to let me hope in his rig for the weekend. Just wanted to let you all know. This is kinda my Jeep journal :)

Got the Jeep back.

Engine temp all fixed. Heat comes out hot now :D
Alternator belt all fixed and I think they rebuilt the alternator.

It drives much better and I am happy. I just need to replace the speedo stuff and its basically set. Just need to find out what these weird noises are... :)

Most of the colors are off because camera flashes are not that great and I had to play with the brightness and contrast... But it was some good fun for being bored.

Well finally finished fixing the speedo tonight... Fixed my ATF leak (T-Case vent fell off and threw ATF all over the underside of the Jeep)

I have a speedo now, I think its like 10MPH off but hey its something :D

Ok wheeled the Jeep again... Mostly everythign is in good working order. Engine runs great, tranny shifts alittle rough but might have got some water in clutch (hope not) no biggy always happens after wheeling. T-case no more leaking, speedo works wonders, axles are smooth. The only thing that broke was my windsheild. Got a 6 inch crack on teh passender side. Started out as a little star shaped crack but grew to be almost the whole vertical glass. Not a big deal dont need a new one till inspection. Not worried about it. I need bigger tires and maybe lock the front but I might not, I like wheeling open its alittle more of a challenge. Maybe I will save my pennies for a OX locker and lock the front when I need it. I dont need a larger motor the 4 banger is working great now. As for lift, I love my lift height. It works great and if I get tires and maybe a few u-bolt flip kits I will be golden :D.

FOUND WATER! :D

Well while cleaning the Jeep on the inside I found that my carpet in the back was soaked... haha damn plugs were not installed WOOPS. Anyway gives me a reason to pull everything out, like the carpet and seats, and maybe down the road line the tub on the inside. Also found a whole in my floor board from rust. There was a previous repair but it was kinda jimmy rigged. Once I get a welder theres another project to replace the floor board. Yay cant wait
