Heya, Just moved to Long Island NY from LA (CA), I totaled my GTI 1.8t (Heavy Mods) and am truying to go in a different direction with my gas powered fun. Anyways I just purchased an 03 WJ Overlander 4.7L HO :) and was wondering if there were any great places to go off roading? I am a newbie to off road driving and any mentoring* would be appriceated. Yes I know its a luxury Jeep but the engine just screams Fun :) Peace and happy holidays to everyone.

Hey and welcome. You found the right place to meet like minded wheelers from this area. We have a few grand cherokee guys on here.
unfortunately there are not a lot of places left to wheel legaly. The two "pay to play" parks are paragon and roush creek, both in PA.

We try to get to one or the other about once a month.
theres always some new guys on every trip so you are sure to have fun and learn some techniques along the way.
Hope to meet you on one of the trips,
al

Hey synterb,
i know a bunch of places o LI..what part did u move to cuz im in Smithtown. Honestly one on the best places for you to get your feet "wet" is head down to the Smiths Pt beach and buy a beach pass. That allows you drive on the beach and on the several trails there. I cant be sure the park is open this year due to errosion but its worth the trip to find out. I believe the pass is $75 for the year and u also need a green card, also bought at the booth which is good for 3 years and thats around $80. Also ask for the fishing permit(free) which allows you to stay on the beach all night. If ya wanna go wheelin sometime let me know xtreme5644@aol.com -Mike

Hey! I'm interested in any info about Smith's Point... I'm running stock for now but would like to do some mild/moderate wheeling, I figure the beach is probably my best bet.
My parents are in Smithtown as well so I'm out there all the time...

p.s. I checked out your Car Domain site...good times.

Try this out for some info on Smith Point park.

Just make sure the beach is open before you buy the permit, sometimes its closed due to erosion. Its been closed for an entire season before.

Hey guys, I live in Westchester, but I'd be glad to head out to LI to wheel, let me know. I'd love to take my KJ in the sand for a change.

Just moved to 'the Island' and am looking for trails and company, any offers? I run my own tree business so my rig gets quite enough abuse during the work week, but come the weekend I am always up for some mud or anything else that doesn't involve tarmac! Did someone mention Smith's Point Beach? And in case you're wondering......................an '06 2500 Dodge Power Wagon, which is a total fuckin' beast, and I aint even started to modify it yet!

I went off-road with a bunch of Long Island Xterra owners back in April. We took Exit 53 on the LIE to the Robert Moses Causeway to the State park there. I had to buy a $49 “fishing permit” in order to access the beach, it’s good until the end of December. We went out to Democrat Point, it was fun but it was pouring rain. We then went back over the bridge and went to “Giilgo Beach” and “Sore Thumb”.http://xterrafirma.com/albums/BklynX/000_0062.thumb.jpggroup shot at “sore Thumb”, I’m in the back.
They then took me to a free place in Wading River that was small but fun. http://xterrafirma.com/albums/album106/Tom.thumb.jpg Haven't had time to head out there since.
